The Moss Dragon and the Butterfly

Hey everyone,

It has been weeks since I started this little critter The Moss Dragon is constructed much like the Wood Dragon, built up layer by layer, blocking out basic form and then detailing each part.

I started with this plate -

It seemed like the perfect 'perch' for this encounter, but by the time I had finished painting and incorporating elements from my own forest shots a couple of weeks later (about 100 layers in the end, I think) very little of the orginal is left. The butterfly is painted from scratch using a reference - the ant and the mouse and more manpis than painted but are unrecognisable from their source.

I'm really enjoying creating these little dragons, they're taking on a life of their own in my head. I kept a lot of my steps in creating the Moss Dragon, so hopefully I'll be able to do a WIP. I had originally created him a lot bigger - about knee-high, but a friend wisely advised me to keep them macro.

Anyway, I'm rambling, thanks a million for looking,

Phil
